Upon your arrival at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (GAU), you will be directly transferred to Shillong, the popular hill station of north east (105 km from city centre / from airport its about 3 hrs drive).
If time permits, en-route visit amazing Umiam Lake (Barapani Lake). Shillong is a beautiful hill station and the capital of Meghalaya, it is also popularly known as Scotland of the East. It is home to many waterfalls, parks, hills, and charming landforms. On arrival complete, your check-in formalities at the respective hotel and unwind. The rest of the day is at your own leisure. You can take a stroll in your hotel premises and enjoy the scenic setting.After breakfast embark on a sightseeing tour, covering the Elephant Falls, Don Bosco Museum, Polo Ground etc. Rest of the day and overnight at leisure.
After breakfast transfer to CHERRAPUNJEE (67 km / 2 hours approx). Visit some of the famous tourist spots such as Nohkalikai waterfalls which is the tallest plunge waterfall in India and it is falling from a height of 1115 feet. Visit Pillar Rock which is surrounded by the lush greenery all around and it is one of the major tourist spots of Cherrapunji. This spot is famous for its striking shape of the rock that is in the form of an immense cone and bounded by two other smaller rocks in similar shape. Later, you will visit to explore the Mawsmai Cave and witness the natural beauty of Seven Sister Falls. Stay overnight at Cherrapunjee.
Wake up early in the morning and enjoy your delicious breakfast at your hotel. After that transfer to the cleanest village of Asia, i.e.Mawlynnong. After reaching this village you will observe the lush greenery all around and one can sense the aroma scattered everywhere in the fresh atmosphere. Explore Mawlynnong Village and learn more about the culture and lifestyle of local tribes. This village is a home of the Khasi tribe mainly. Later, visit the stunning waterfalls. There are more things on the way to enjoy before going back to Shillong. Further, you will be driven to Dawki, which is about 20 kilometers south of Mawlynnong, at the border of India and Bangladesh and renowned for its suspension bridge which is commonly known as the Dawki Bridge and is built over the Umngot River. The bridge was constructed by the British in 1932. You can enjoy boating on the Umngot River. The most interesting fact about this river is that the water of Dawki is so clear that you will feel like you are boating on a crystal glass surface. It is one of the most striking natural landmarks in Meghalaya. After exploring the amazing towns continue your drive to Shillong. On arrival at the hotel, relax. Optional: Half day excursion to Jowai, the headquarters of the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, India. It is home to the Pnar, a sub-tribe of the Khasi people, located on a plateau surrounded on three sides by the Myntdu river bordering Bangladesh to the south (about 50 km from the Indo-Bangladesh border). Due to its high-altitude of 1365 m above sea level, Jowai experiences warm summers with cool to chilly winters.
As more travellers explore the eastern sections of Meghalaya, they are discovering the rich culture and previously undocumented landscapes of the Jaintia Hills. Jowai town is a cultural and commercial pivot of this region and its history goes back to the times when the Pnar kings were the dominant force in the region. Jowai provides a starting point for those who want to spend time understanding the local culture and visiting the myriad attractions.
Nearby Syntu Ksiar which is located at the basin of the winding Myntdu River is an important historical spot. It has a monument dedicated to the most famous Jaintia freedom fighter – Kiang Nong Bah. The Jowai Presbyterian Church was built in the nineteenth century and is the main architectural highlight of this town. Nearby attractions include Thadlaskein Lake, Ialong Park and Sacred Grove, and the famous Nartiang monoliths.
Morning at leisure. Later you will be transferred to Guwahati and upon your arrival, you will be checked in to your hotel.
Early in the morning proceed to Kamakhya Temple. After darshan (own arrangement) back to hotel. Later visit Bashistha Ashram, Sankardev Kalakhetra etc. Evening enjoy Cruise on River Brahmaputra, followed by dinner.
After that back to hotel and stay overnight.
Morning check-out from hotel and departure transfer to Guwahati (GAU) for your return flight / train.
