Starting from Guwahati, explore the Scotland of the East – Shillong – with excursions to Cherrapunji’s waterfalls, Mawlynnong – Asia’s cleanest village, and the crystal-clear waters of Dawki’s Umngot River. Continue to Kaziranga National Park, home of the one-horned rhinoceros, before entering Arunachal Pradesh through Bhalukpong and the orchid-rich landscapes of Dirang. Travel over the high-altitude Sella Pass to mystical Tawang with its majestic Tawang Monastery and Jaswant Garh War Memorial. Stop at scenic Bomdila and end the journey in Guwahati with holy spots such as Kamakhya Temple and a peaceful Brahmaputra River Cruise. A nice mix of nature, adventure, and culture in India's magical Northeast.
Arrival at Guwahati and transfer directly to the Scotland of the East Shillong (105 km from city / 3 hrs approx). Enroute visit the amazing Ummiam (Barapani) Lake. Evening & overnight leisure.
Visit Elephant Falls and Dom Bosco Museum at Shillong and after that proceed to Cherrapunji (world's highest rain fall zone) which is 56 km / about 2 hrs drive. Enjoy the beautiful falls of Cherrapunji, the beautiful landscapes of Meghalaya hills including Asia's 2nd highest falls Naukalikhai. Back to Shillong in the evening and free at leisure.
Wake up early in the morning and enjoy your delicious breakfast at your hotel. After that transfer to the cleanest village of Asia, i.e.Mawlynnong. After reaching this village you will observe the lush greenery all around and one can sense the aroma scattered everywhere in the fresh atmosphere. Explore Mawlynnong Village and learn more about the culture and lifestyle of local tribes. This village is a home of the Khasi tribe mainly. Enjoy the best warm hospitality offered by the people of the village to the guests.
Later, visit the stunning waterfalls. There are more things on the way to enjoy before going back to Shillong. Further, you will be driven to Dawki, which is about 20 kilometers south of Mawlynnong, at the border of India and Bangladesh and renowned for its suspension bridge which is commonly known as the Dawki Bridge and is built over the Umngot River. The bridge was constructed by the British in 1932. You can enjoy boating on the Umngot River. The most interesting fact about this river is that the water of Dawki is so clear that you will feel like you are boating on a crystal glass surface. After early breakfast transfer to Kaziranga (280 kms 6 hrs). Check in at the hotel, freshen up and take a little rest. You can take leisure walks to the nearby areas of the resort. Later visit the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park and back to your hotel and overnight stay.
Early breakfast at your hotel and after that that transfer to Bhalukpong (about 4 hours drive). Bhalukpung, a small town located at 213m above sea level, lies along the Kameng river and is the headquarters of Bhalukpung circle. This place was governed by local tribal Aka rulers, with occasional political dominance from Bhutan and Assam. Ahom rulers of Assam did not interfere with the local tribals, except for retaliatory raids into the tribal territory. In 1873, the British had declared the area around Bhalukpung as off-limits.
After breakfast drive to Dirang (185 / approximately 7 hrs drive approx). Enroute visit Tippi Orchid Centre. Check in to hotel. Evening at leisure and overnight stay at your hotel at Dirang.
Fish angling and river rafting are the principal tourist activities in Bhalukpung. Tourist attractions in Bhalukpung include the Pakhui Game Sanctuary and Tipi Orchidarium, which hosts over 2600 cultivated orchids from 80 different species.
The annual festival Nyethidow of the Aka tribe is celebrated in January at Bhalukpung, Thrizino. Bhalukpung is inhabited by members of the Aka Tribes. Enroute visit Tippi Orchid Centre. Check in to hotel. Evening at leisure and overnight stay at your hotel at Dirang.
Morning drive to Tawang (155 km / 7 hrs drive approx). Enroute witness the snowcapped Sella Pass at 14000 ft and the Jaswant Garh War Memorial. Legend has it that Jaswant (Mahavir Chakra Awardee (Posthumous) of 4th Batallion Garhwal Rifles), fought a lone battle against the invading Chinese during the 1962 war. His spirit is still believed to protect the place. Overnight stay at Tawang.
Tawang - The beautiful land of the Monpa tribes with the “GALDEN NAMGYEL LHATSE” Monestary - one of the largest Lamaseries of Mahayana sect in Asia. The birth place of the 6th Dalai Lama, the Monastery is 400 year old and is adorned with the 18 feet high statue of Lord Buddha. ‘The Land of Dawn-lit Mountains’ at 3500 mts gives you unparallel purity of nature. Visit the monastery and the War Memorial. Evening free for shopping. Overnight in Tawang.
Morning check-out transfer to Bomdila (6 hrs drive approx). Night halt.
After early breakfast transfer to Guwahati, the capital of Assam (340 km / 6 hrs drive approx) and afternoon visit Sankardeb Kalakhetra, Bashista Ashram, Kamakhya Temple etc (subject to availability of time). Evening enjoy an amazing Cruise on River Brahmaputra, followed by dinner. Later back to your hotel for night stay.
After breakfast check out from hotel and direct transfer to Guwahati Airport or Guwahati Railway Station for your onward journey.
